Award to Attend the Summer School on Innovative Approaches in Science

Congratulations to the winners of PETA Science Consortium International’s travel award to attend the Summer School on Innovative Approaches in Science. Taking place in North Carolina, US, from 7 to 10 June 2022, and hosted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the summer school will include informative lectures by renowned experts, networking events, laboratory visits, and more.

Tiffany Yanez Zapata, a Regulatory Toxicologist at Diversey, has a master’s in Biology and expertise in toxicology testing and pesticide registration. She will use the information learned at the summer school to further implement non-animal toxicology testing approaches within her company.

Elena Chung, a PhD candidate in Computational and Integrative Biology at Rutgers University, aims to use non-animal research to inform and impact environmental health policy and regulation. Her current research is a data-driven QSAR modeling approach used to predict potential human carcinogens.

Viviana Stephanie Costa Gagosian

Viviana Stephanie Costa Gagosian participated in and was honoured at the virtual Summer School on Innovative Approaches in Science taking place from 22 to 25 June 2020.

A a master’s student in genetics at the Federal University of Paraná in Brazil, Viviana, Viviana is working on the development and validation of a reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) to evaluate skin irritation in vitro and non-animal methods for ecotoxicology that can be used in product development.
